2022 is going to be busy.

Next meeting 14th March 2022 The Union Club, Stevens Street Alderley Edge SK9 7NL. Vince Chadwick will talk about "Alderley Edge; a village named by the railway"

Vince is a member of our group, and although having had a career in IT, his main interest was in aviation and railways. Having flown in Concorde before it was retired, he then became the Concorde tour guide at Manchester Airport.. He also volunteered as footplate crew on the trains at Museum of Science & Industry, a signalman at Churnet Valley Railway, & a NT volunteer at Styal Mill and Nether Alderley Mill.

Vince has a in depth knowledge of trains and railways , so we are looking forward to his talk.

PLATINUM CELEBRATIONS.

to be part of the village celebrations, the History Group will stage a Celebration Display of photos and memorabilia of all celebrations in Alderley. We are calling it ALDERLEY CELEBRATES

We already have some photos and information of Mayfairs , Rose Queens, Church fetes, carnivals, Millennium, parties in the park & past Jubilee street parties over the years and would love to have more for our collection,

so please look through albums, scrap books, and bring photos to the March meeting, so we can scan and use in our display.

We have on loan, a superb collection of jubilee and coronation mugs from Ian's mother, Eunice Cook. This exhibition will be at St Philip & St James Church from mid May till end of June.

Volunteers needed to help scan and help set up the display at the back of church..

Alderley Celebrates. Jubilee Pimms Social to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. St Philip & St James Church. Clare Pye will give a festive talk.

On the Cobbles Mark Llewellin, actor, scriptwriter and author, has an in-depth knowledge of 'Coronation Street'

and in his talk, 'On the Cobbles', he gives an in-depth, expert and humorous view of 'Coronation Street', especially in its early years.


17th October

The History of the Union Club John Wallace and Sue Byrne.

Alderley & Wilmslow Footpaths Preservation Society is soon to be 107years old. They are looking for new leaders for their weekly walks. Hilary Reeman has been involved for a long time and has research the history of the society. We hope to be able to share the history soon. www.footpaths.org.uk/history.

War Memorial It has come to our attention, that the centenary of our village war memorial is 29th April 2022. This will be commemorated on Remembrance Day in November.


History Boards. we are progressing our joint venture with the Alderley Edge Station Volunteer Group to create several history boards to display at the station, along with the Legend of Alderley board, which Geoff introduced at our AGM, to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee.
